India - Books to Read
Books are super cheap here in India so definitely buy a few.
I’m not a reader but when I travel I make myself buy books that are usually about or set in the country I’m visiting. It makes the stories more vivid and magical as you can understand and imagine the settings. I even go as far as to dividing up the pages for the total amount of time I’m away so that I must complete the book before my return, as as soon as I arrive back home, day to day life sets in and the magic has gone a little. I find it very inspiring allowing my mind to get lost and creations can begin.
I think the second time I came here and someone suggested I read Shantaram - like I said I’m not a reader and when I saw the size of this book I was thinking am I being a little too ambitious here…? anyway I got straight on it and divided up the pages and read the whole thing just before I left, it is a great read if you get the chance, it’s about an American guy who lives in India and his incredible story.
This has been a record for me in completing the books below while in India 2019
The Forest of Enchantments - Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni
Hippie - Paulo Coelho
Siddhartha - Hermann Hesse
The Happiness Project - Gretchen Rubin
The E Myth Revisited - Michael E. Gerber
I really enjoyed them all but particularly The Forest of Enchantments which is about a Epic called The Ramayana, one of the worlds greatest epics and is also a tragic love story but a beautiful read.
