What is Kintsugi?
Kintsugi (金継ぎ), meaning "golden joinery", is the traditional Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with gold. Rather than hiding cracks and imperfections, Kintsugi celebrates them, transforming damage into beauty and creating a unique piece with a new story to tell.
More than simply a repair technique, Kintsugi offers a powerful philosophy: that our breaks, imperfections, and challenges can become part of our strength and beauty.
This centuries-old practice teaches us that nothing is ever truly broken. Through care, patience, and creativity, new life and meaning can be brought back to an object, making it even more precious than before.
The techniques taught can also be applied to other materials including glass, wood, greenstone, and shells.
